It was a regular summer day. The group of wanderers was tired of routine and then suddenly we decided to head to the ancient stepwell near satara. We read about that place a while ago and planning to visit it for long time. and so we finally decided to visit the place.
we started from the pune early in the morning by 7. As it was summer day,we wanted to reach the location before it starts difficult to ride in the super bright and hot afternoon. it is a 2.30 hours of drive from pune. we left pune and stopped on the highway for some breakfast. many places on the highway opens up in the morning and serves considerably good breakfast.we had breakfast and continued on the road and reached to the Bara motechi vihir by 10.30
This was built in 1646 by Sau.Virubai Bhonsale. The well was basically built as the source of water for the Alphonso farms. The well is very beautiful looking. it is octagonal in shape, about 110 feet deep and 50 diameter, it has intricate stairs and a grand entrance. also unexpected small gallery with open ends for both sides.it was originally supposed to be the small place for throne. The place was absolutely peaceful. some kids from the village was taking the dip in the water and people sitting under the trees, chatting.
Once you done sightseeing, there is peepal tree outside the vihir. under tree, some local kids sells lemon water, just the thing you want to drink on the hot afternoon.
On our way back we decided to take a detour and stop for late lunch at mapro garden in wai. it was all worth it.
How to reach to location from pune- few kilometers before satara, you will see the satara college of engineering and management on the right, take left to nagewadi. proceed to limb village. keep asking the local people for directions.
The curiosity, the need to discover new places, the wish to meet new people satisfied for now!
